Bring the sunshine of the South of France into your kitchen with these authentic recipes from Provence written by the wife of a Provençal Chef in the USA
Provence is Where I Fell in Love with French Food
I didn't fall in love with French food in Paris.
I fell in love with it under the Mediterranean sun.
When I was 23 years old, I packed my bags and moved to Nice as an exchange student, never imagining that the South of France would completely change the way I cooked, and my life. It was there that I met my future husband, Sébastien, a French chef from nearby Toulon.

J'Adore! Would you like to save this recipe?

Some of my happiest memories are wandering through open-air markets overflowing with vine-ripened tomatoes, fragrant basil, tiny zucchini, ripe figs, juicy peaches, olives, fresh goat cheese and warm, crusty baguettes tucked under my arm.
Provençal cooking isn't about complicated techniques or rich sauces.
It's about letting beautiful ingredients speak for themselves.
Fresh vegetables, generous olive oil, herbs picked from the garden, seafood straight from the Mediterranean and meals shared with family around a table.
If you've ever dreamed of bringing a little bit of the South of France into your own kitchen, these are the recipes to start with.
What is Provençal Cuisine?
Provençal cuisine comes from Provence, the beautiful southeastern region of France stretching from Marseille to Nice along the Mediterranean coast and inland to the tiny hill top villages of Gordes, Bonnieux and Apt. The region of Provence Alpes Côte D'Azur.
Unlike the butter-rich cuisine of northern France, Provençal cooking celebrates:
- Olive oil
- Garlic
- Tomatoes
- Eggplant
- Zucchini
- Bell peppers
- Fresh herbs
- Seafood
- Citrus
- Olives
- Goat cheese
- Rosé wine
The flavors are bright, rustic and deeply seasonal. Every meal celebrates what is growing in the garden or arriving fresh at the local market.
It is one of the healthiest and most approachable regional cuisines in France and one of the easiest to recreate at home.
